(V/A) No Border Jam Festival 7th Compilation (2012)

No Border Jam is a punk/hardcore/rock DIY festival, that is active from year 1992 in Maribor, Slovenia, thanks to crew from Subkulturni Azil. Last year it was 20th anniversary, so the crew decided to make 7th free-of-charge compilation of bands that performed on festival. There are 24 bands and songs from ex-Yugoslavia area on them, sorted in this order:

ABERGAZ - MINIMALIZAM MEGALOMANIJE (2012.)

Abergaz is a punk band from Zagreb, Croatia, that I have created on March 7th, 2006 at 9 p.m. This is our second album, with far more greater production than our first one, on wich I have been working together with my band for three years to this date - and now is finally finished - and published on our DIY label. So far, we packed it on tapes, but there is also, of course, available digital download from our bandcamp page (link is below). KAOS - DEMO COLLECTION (1979.-1984.)

KAOS (Eng. "Chaos")was a Croatian Punk/New Wave band established in 1979 and a part of the Rijeka music scene in Croatia (Hrvatska, at that time a part of a former Yugoslavia). Band members were Neven Braut (guitar), Robert Zambata (bas), Tea Josipovic (vocal), Andrej Urem (drums), Emil Zauhar (keyboard), Igor Glumac (keyboard), Zvonimir Pliskovac (artwork). They claim their influences in bands like The Clash, Ramones, PIL, Nina Hagen, Siouxie and the Banches, Talking Heads and etc. KAOS toured in Zagreb, Rijeka, Ljubljana, Beograd etc. Despite of their popularity at the time, the band did not release an official album until 2010. where are the 14 tracks present on the album 'KAOS 1979-1984'. On it are all original recordings from that period. What I am bringing you today are 14 songs from them that period of time, that I managed to collect over the internet, since I didn't get that remastered CD, so experience how that originaly sounded on recorded tapes. What you can hear on it is some unique punk and post punk music mixed with Tea's '77 female psychotic vocals that I personally adore so much! As I heard, band split-up, because Tea got married and moved to Danmark country. And that is very far away from Croatia. This stuff is very rare today but it definitely it shouldn't be! Love this bend, so fucking much - from psychodelic moments to punk as fuck moments! Lyrics are also so fucking great, like in song Nova Bolest ("New disease") where she is singing in Croatian:"Bole me noge od hodanja po žici ('My legs are hurting me because walking on wires'), bole me oči od gledanja u prazno ('my eyes are hurting me because watching emptyness')" - very punk poetic stuff if you ask me. GENERALI - DEMO COLLECTION (198?.)

It's been a long time since I posted anything new here. Perhaps because I was busy and at the same time, I didn't have anything that I wanted to share with you this way. Anyway - band Genereali (Eng. Generals) are cult 80's Zagreb (Croatia, (than Yugoslavia)) punk band. They are playing they own style of punk and it will be best to you, to decide 'how do they sound to you', because I know what do they like sound to me - but I will keep that personal. <3 Original line-up splited at the end of the 80's, when their singer become, what they call, a 'familly man', and rest 3 members continued to play two (or three?) more years, but eventually they splited up also, because that wasn't the same at all without singer. What is also interesting about their singer, that he is today 'Konzum voice' in their TV and radio commercials in Croatia. If you are living here in Croatia, you will eventually find that fact very funny. :D Anyway, in this download zip package are 10 songs collected from their demo's and ripped by Žikk (thanks!) - so download link is below and I hope that you'll enjoy their songs. KRVAVI PROTOKOL - KRVAVI PROTOKOL (S/T cass 1992.)

Krvavi Protokol (Eng. "Bloody Protocol") is raw punk band from Belgrade, Serbia, formed in year 1990, in year when every dream about Yugoslavia stopped to exist in most people minds, in year when nationalist intellectual elite of countries Serbia and Croatia (and others ex-Yugoslavian countries) massively took control of peoples minds, what leaded to that goddamn bloody war that will come in year 1991 to this Balkan area. So what can you expect from punks at that time? What I know - almost everything. Many people at that time decided to take a nationalist stand, but this band decided to make a stand 'Down all politicians' - song is originally (as all their other songs) on Serbian language named 'Dole svi političari' and drunken translations of that song to English language will go something like this:

Dole sistem, dole vlada! (Down the system, down the government!)
Neću da moj razum strada! (I don't wanna that my intellect die!)
Dole sistem, dole svi! (Down the system, down everyone!)
Svi debeli političari! (Every fat politicians!)

If you ask me - that is one fuckin' great two-minute music bomb that describe very good the anger of that time that is still very actual at this time - if you ask me! And it is very interesting to me the fact that the word 'debeli' (Eng. 'Fat'), sounds very similar to curse word 'jebeni' (Eng. 'goddamn'/'fucking'/etc.) and the way that vocalist sings it - it almost sounds to me like he is singing 'debeli' & 'jebeni' at the same time, which I found very interesting. Anyway, on that Cass (and on this download) are also many other great songs! For example 'Zona X', 'Slepa Planeta' ('Blind Planet') or song 'Ludi naučnik' (Eng. "Crazy scientist") where are they singing about some hypothetical crazy scientist that got Nobel prize for Life Work because of some bomb that can kill all humanity very efficient and you know, when I heard that Barrack Obama got the Nobel Prize for peace while he was, formally speaking - 'leading' three wars at the time over the world, then I don't see why wouldn't some crazy scientist got Nobel Prize for new big suicidal bomb in the future. Song 'Rat' (Eng. 'War') is recorded live from some their concert and it started with dedication that goes (translated) like this:"This is song is for all people that went to fuckin' war" and then most of the recording is pretty much inaudible for my hearing, but I understand the parts when he said (translated):"...and people will disappear and you don't care, this insanity will continue...everywhere only death and sadness...this crap is not stopping" and from that lyrics and others songs, you can hear their anger that will be in 1994 transferred to another Belgrade band called Vox Populi, because band Krvavi Protokol stopped working and playing, because of to me unknown reasons, but I think that some of the members formed another band Vox Populi. Don't take that statement for granted, because I am not sure about last one. As far as I know - this Cass is only release from band Krvavi Protokol. Below is track list and download link. Cheers!

ANTIROST - NIKAD NEĆE BITI BOLJE (2010.)

Haven't been here for a while... But who gives a shit. Anyway, today I am bringing you again some rare stuff that simply does not deserve to be rare - because it fucking rocks! Today we are talking about hc-punk band Anti-rost (or Antirost) from Pančevo, Serbia. Word 'rost' is actually on German language - it means - 'stainless', and auto-irony is that they are "anti" that - and maybe that is the reason why is this their second release packed in rusty metal, with rusty bicycle (or chainsaw? not sure...) chain. I wanna say thanks to my good friend Markan for forwarding pictures and for ripping this CD that he got, when he was on the floor dead-drunk on one gig in Subotica (Serbia), where was playin' Proces, Disrupt and Riistetyt (I think..). Anyway, as I heard from a couple of stories, members of this band are having a lot of troubles because of their 'intensive punk image' in their hometown Pančevo, because neo-nazis and similar bigotry people doesn't tolerate 'punkish looks' at all and there are many fascist boneheads in Serbia, so explicit nihilist punks like Anti-rost are having big problems with them there. That was, what I have heard, from talking with other people that are living in that area. I think that you know what am I talking about, so I don't see reason to explain further. Music. My impression of sound and all their concept, that they are some kind of combination of Exploited 'Troops of Tomorrow' phase, mixed with clear hardcore vocals, nihilistic emptiness on snare drum, and lunatic wah-wah solos. Lyrics are very angry, nihilistic and rebellious filled '77 spirit. I think that titles of songs say's a lot about them. PUNKART - PUNKART (1998.)

First, I am not gonna say sorry for not posting anything in almost 2 months - because I was really busy with my jobs, bands and with rioting on streets, so if you can't understand that - go fuck yourself you ignorant fuck. Enough with that - today I am bringing you something very rare and I would like to say thanks to friend called Darijan from Tuzla (BiH) that I met at S.A.W.A festival in Županja last year - thank you for forwarding me this great music! Band is called Punkart and they are from city called Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They started playing when punk & rock scene in Tuzla was practically dead and forgotten at the same time. When everything was still deep in ashes of goddamn ex-yugoslavian war. Sound on this their first home made demo (that I am bringing you today) is so fuckin' raw but yet kinda melodic - and all that is mixed with very frustrated and angry vocals from their singer Haris. Imagine 'gray' anger that is trying to make a sparkle kicking rock to another rock, while trying to light the fire of living in city that is practically dead - that is how can I describe their music and often auto-ironical lyrics on this first release of them. Band had a couple of break-ups but it is still playing in slightly different line-up, but I am sure that Haris, their frontman, is in band from beginning (and probably to their end). Today they got soften and I don't know... Yeah, today they are good, but this release IS SO FUCKING GREAT!! - That is the difference. I booked them a gig in a Zagreb, a couple of weeks ago, they were good live, but somehow I missed this anger from their first release. Personally, I like the most, their song called "Let" (Eng. "Flying"), were lyrics are saying this. Yes, I will translate them to drunken English language. :) Here they are:

Alarm - Stay with punk (2011.)

Alarm is a very young 3-piece punk band from Pazin, Croatia, that was active from March 2010. Their members are only 13, 14 and 15 years old - and they rock! Songs have great attitude, energy and they are playing very good! On this their first (and for now only) demo album, that is recorded by themselves in their rehearsal room are 10 songs and recording quality is solid. I, personally like the most, their line from their song 'Ludnica'(Eng. 'Mental Hospital'), where are they singing (translated):"This is mental hospital, no, this is Croatia". This line says it all about Croatia, I would agree. :D Themes of their songs are from society to thoughts in head, filled with youth enthusiasm and everything that comes with it. I am sure that if they continue to be themselves, that in future, they can only be even better than now - and now they are great! So, be sure to check them out. Oi! Front - New Breed's On The Move (2010.)

Oi! Front is an Oi! band, formed in Zagreb, Croatia in January 2008. Most simply, I can describe their style as - pure Oi! music for youth unity and against politics and all other bad shits. They are raw, hard, but not macho - imagine pure and REAL skinhead youth energy mixed with simplistic and catchy tunes. This is they debut album - and if you like Oi! music, I strongly recommend it! Wanna tell me more about them? Okay. They have played a dozen of gigs in Croatia, and recently they had played even in Germany - where they got signed with Bandworm records (where are also Perkele and other bands), so I think that that, also says that they are great. LJENA ĐUBRAD - S/T (2005.)

Ljena Đubrad (Eng. - Lazy Mucks) is punk rock band from Požega, Croatia, that Mata gather up in 2004. (i think) after his first band called Anti-Talents ceased to act. This band is mix of minimalistic punk-rock melodies, youth vocals and direct straight-forward lyrics. To me, their most interesting song lyrics are from their song called "Čovijek"(Eng. - "Human"). Even at this song music kinda sucks, at least to me, lyrics are pretty interesting. This is the rough translation to English language of that lyrics:

What does mean to be humane?/ Humane doesn't mean to be good/ Humane means to be human/ And human is biggest evil/ Wars, murdering/ Suffering, greed/ Hatred, condemning/ that are the marks of human/ Look around yourself/ Everything is based on the interests/ He exploits and kills, if he need/ So that he can have a lot of money


Even I don't agree with using of word 'humane', because I am aware that it means doing something for better living of mankind, I found this point of view very interesting. ABERGAZ - PEČINAR (single 2010.)

Okay, I am gonna try to write about this, from third-person view. Why? For fun! :D Hahaha. :) Okay -  Abergaz is a punk band from Zagreb, Croatia, that is active from March 7th, 2006. This is their DIY single that they made on November 2010. The song is called 'Pečinar' (grammatical mistake on original title has been made on purpose). Translated into English language, the title of song is 'Caveman'. About what is this song? Download and listen - booklet & lyrics translations to English language, are also included inside. Also, 90% of cover is handcrafted - but I think that everything is 'readable'. ;) This single will be also released in 'solid' format, but for now, it is only available in this way, because they need to gather money to make solid release. DISKURZ - U PROTIVNOM (2009.)

Diskurz is punk band from Rijeka, Croatia, that is active from 2006. Their style is to be more artistic and non-typical band that in this pseudo-reality come out like some more 'punk-ish Nirvana' or 'grunge-ish Sex Pistols' - at least on this album, I don't know how are they gonna sound on their next album, that they are currently recording. This album is released for major label, called 'Dallas Records' (for Europe), and couple of songs from this album are also released on 7-inch vinyl for label called Todo Destruido (for U.S.A.). How did they managed to get on the major label? Well, I heard a couple of stories, but most common is that they managed to get there, because one of them is actually a relative with Goran Lisica - Fox, or just good friend with him - and Fox is (I think) the main boss in 'Dallas Records'. Yes - they 'pulled their strings' and as I can read that on their interviews - they are definitely not hiding that. They are saying everyone to face, that they are 'sell-out pussies' and that they don't care about that and that they just want to express what they feel in the way that they feel while searching for some new edges in music and in life. Is that some real nihilism, or just 'journalism jerking' - to be honest - I, personally don't care, you find your own opinion if you want. Anyway - on this album they have a couple of songs, that I personally like very much (no, I am not gonna say what are they ;)), so, together with request in shout-box, that are the reasons why am I bringing you today this album. LUNACHICKS - PRETTY UGLY (1997.)

Lunachicks were an all-women punk rock band from New York City (USA). The band formed in 1987 and has been on hiatus since 2000. The band claimed influences including The Ramones, Kiss, and the MC5. Their music is, I will tell, riot grrrl in one of the most punkiest ways. I can hear spirit of the Runaways, mixed with angry riffs and VERY ALIVE drumming. Vocals from Theo Kogan are mostly very deep, but than again on some songs higher and always so-into-song, that you can really feel that she REALLY mean what she is singing - she is awesome singer! Anyway, I highly recommend to download and hear this band! Today I am bringing you one of my favorite albums from them.

Okay - THIS RECORD WAS WAY AHEAD IT'S TIME! No - caps lock is not accidental! For fuck sake, these guys are fast, lucid, angry and clever in all that! Middle Class, formed in 1976. in Santa Ana, California, were definitely one of the first hardcore punk bands in history. Debate continues to this day as to whether Middle Class were the first hardcore band or if Black Flag or Bad Brains were. (It is unlikely that Bad Brains were aware of the Middle Class, however, as they were unknown outside of California.) Their sound evolved from being a blistering, shouted, arty version of punk which would be extremely influential to the hardcore sound that would emerge in the years following their first release, the 1978 "Out Of Vogue" 7 inch (that I am giving you today). This record featured the title track along with three other songs. I managed even to find lyrics for Out Of Vogue song, that goes like this:

OFF! - 1st 7'' E.P (2010.)

TRN U OKU - vozim svoju trku... (2009.)

The band was formed in 1995., in Zadar (Croatia) and it was first called "Kapula" ("Onions"). Just after the first gig the line up has been changed and at the beginning of 1996. the band also changed its name to "Trn u oku" ("Thorn in the eye"). In the following 3 years the band recorded 2 demos and one studio recording (unsigned), played about 30 gigs and gained many followers all around Croatia. Then, for no particular reason, the band stopped working, but there was always a great wish to play one last show and say goodbye to all of their fans. Fortunately, in 2005. the band realized that they have a lot more left to say, they joined up again and started rehearsing and making new songs. On November 17th, 2007. they played a show in Zadar, the first after 8 years, and it was a total blast, as they said. It was the beginning of the new era of "Trn u oku", what means that band is still active now. Today, I am bringing you their latest release, that was in year 2009, named - "vozim svojim trku..."("I ride my race" (in "racing" context is meaning)), on which are four awesome punk songs full of energy of life!

URBAN PHOBIA - DYING GENERATION (2004.)

Urban Phobia was chaos-street punk from Zagreb, Croatia, that was active from beginning of 2004 year, to the end of 2005. In the beginning band was called Mohikan 82, but after the singer and lyric writer called Taliban, came into the band, Mohikan 82 was renamed in Urban Phobia. They have recorded 2 demos, first was much rawer than this second one that I am bringing to you today. I will also later upload their first demo, when their guitar player send me it. This demo - Dying Generation is in better quality, but it is still raw as fuck! Imagine mix of earliest version of Antidote (Netherlands) sound, mixed with even more extremely nihilistic and street punk view of this life and world. Because they were at that time really living their lives like it is described on this demo, this recording is full of honest youth anger and reactions against this apathy and decay of today. It is interesting fact, that they have recorded this demo in studio Kozmo in 14 hours of total effective time, during the few days, because they won in some band contest, that was happening in famous club Močvara in Zagreb, at that time. Band split-up, after few concerts and after less than 2 years, because everyone of them had very big problems in life at that time, so they just went apart. Later their singer and guitar players formed band called Emetophilia. Their second guitarist, Toni Plutonij, told me that he thinks that everyone of them, changed very much after they went apart. CRVENI ŠLIC - OGLEDALO BESMISLA (2010.)

Crveni Šlic (eng. Red Zipper) is awesome hardcore punk band that crawled out from Bihać, Bosnia & Herzegovina. They music is first of all - painfully honest interpretation of life in Bihać and it also comes often with very satiric lyrics about some dark thoughts in their heads and also about idiots and passive people around them. Vocals (Meho) sound something like mix of Hogar (Motus Vita Est) attitude, with Satan Panonski (Pogreb X) color of voice. Their album "Ogledalo Besmisla" ("Mirror of nonsense") is their first 'official' recording, if we don't count some live bootlegs. Anyway, I recommend you to download this album and to hear by yourself, if you wish that, of course. ;) Track list & download link is bellow.

SKÖL - UZMI I REŽI (EP) (1991.)

This the last release of high energy punk band Sköl from Zagreb (Croatia), that was released in 1991. for "Slušaj Najglasnije" ("Listen Loudest") underground label. "Uzmi i reži" ("Take and cut") is awesome sequel of "Čista perverzija" ("Pure perversion") record, released in 1990., with four awesome hardcore punk songs, including great song called "Kuća Gori" ("House is burning"), with repetitive lyrics, that are saying, translated in English:"House - is burning - House - there is no one - to extinguish it!" I used to listen this song on repeat for all night long, hahahhaah. Anyway, here is the track list and, of course, download link.
